Yale Healthcare Coalition and the #ProtectOurPatients Campaign
The Yale Healthcare Coalition was formed post-election in November 2016 by health professional students concerned about the potential impact of the new administration on health care in our country. We helped to build the #ProtectOurPatients (POP) movement, a grassroots campaign of over 4,700 future health care providers who are standing with our patients. We oppose repeal of the ACA and, instead, demand a bipartisan effort to improve it. We engage in local and national legislative advocacy to remind Congress that this is a matter of life and death and to urge our representatives put patients over politics.
Members of the Yale Healthcare Coalition currently serve on the National Working Group that directs POP efforts. We authored a national petition against ACA repeal, which was presented with over 4,000 signatures to all 100 Senators in Washington D.C. We also published an op-ed in the Huffington Post that describes our motivation for the campaign. Our past efforts have been covered by MedPage Today, Yale Medicine, and the Yale Daily News.
